Mexico Takes Steps to Boost Tourism

05.03.13

Mexico’s President, Enrique Nieto Pena recently announced that the government is taking dynamic steps to increase tourism, starting with the creation of a Tourism Cabinet consisting of officials from all areas of government.

With nearly 9% of the GDP accounted for by tourism, the new plan seeks to significantly increase that number with new National Tourism Policy that addresses four distinct areas:

  1. Planning and Sectorial Transformation
  2. Innovation and Competitiveness
  3. Development and Promotion
  4. Sustainability and Social Benefit

It’s all part of an overall movement starting at the highest levels to make Mexico more attractive and accessible for both casual and business travelers, as well as to attract greater foreign investment.  These plans, combined with Mexico’s burgeoning middle class and dynamic urban, educated youth, are indeed combining to make the country more attractive than ever.
