On February 10th of 2014, Mexicali’s Mayor, Jaime Diaz, appointed IVEMSA Marketing Director Alfredo Garcia as the President of the area’s Industrial Development Commission for a three year period. Garcia was one of the three finalists presented to the Mayor for consideration by the Cooperative Business Council of Mexicali.

Started more than 35 years ago, the IDC is a partnership between city government and the private sector which includes industrial parks, shelter companies, and law firms among others. IVEMSA’s current president, Sergio Tagliapietra, has also previously served as head of the IDC.

In this honorary position, Garcia heads up the agency’s outreach efforts to domestic and international markets to attract additional investments and that will result in new job opportunities in the region. Additionally, Garcia will work with the Mayor Diaz on economic development strategies for the area.

“After careful review of the recommended candidates, Alfredo Garcia was selected as the best fit for what my administration is working towards,” stated Jaime Diaz, Mayor of Mexicali. “I believe he brings a desired fresh perspective for promoting the city and attracting more investment, while also maximizing business opportunities for local Mexican companies.”

Garcia responded, “I am honored by the privilege bestowed on me by Mayor Diaz in trusting me with the IDC leadership. It’s a great responsibility and challenge but I’m confident that working as a team, government and private sector along with the educational institutions, we will be able to enhance the already prosperous business environment and facilitate more sustainable economic growth.”
